Strong Young People & Families

By developing certain qualities, such as resilience and high self-esteem, young people can resist negative peer pressure more easily and are less likely to drink alcohol irresponsibly as youth or adults.

Strong family bonds strengthen parental influence, thereby decreasing the likelihood of irresponsible drinking.

Resistance to Peer Pressure

Social resistance skills help children deal with peer pressure and other negative influences. Initiatives focus on:

  • Assisting young people in making smart decisions
  • Knowing how to say ‘no’
  • Knowing how and when to ask for help from an adult or mentor

Building High Self Esteem

Promoting activities and fostering high self esteem in young people better equips them to handle outside pressures. A high sense of self worth and confidence in young people assists them in making sound choices.

Building Strong Family Bonds

Family skills training programmes have been found to significantly reduce problem behaviours, delinquency, and alcohol and drug abuse in children and to improve social competencies and school performance.
