FAQ
FIVS is an international federation designed to serve the global alcohol beverage sector including wine, spirits, and beer. It focuses on public policy challenges and works toward total economic, social, and environmental sustainability. FIVS was founded in July 1951 and is headquartered in Paris, France.
Members come from all parts and regions of the global wine, spirits and beer sectors. FIVS members include producers, distributors, importers, exporters, trade associations, laboratories, law firms, international organisations, and distinguished individuals in the global alcohol beverage sector. Potential members can apply for membership or can be asked to join.
Every year members come together at two General Assembly meetings to vote on actions for FIVS to take. FIVS operates by consensus. This means that if there is a single dissenting voice in the membership, FIVS will not act in that particular area. All members must agree in order for FIVS to take action.
FIVS comprises a General Assembly, a Presidential Council, three Working Groups, two Committees, and a Secretariat. The General Assembly is made up of representatives from each member organisation. The Presidential Council consists of a President, three Vice-Presidents, a Secretary, an Assistant Secretary, a Treasurer, and an Assistant Treasurer. More information can be found on the Structure page.
FIVS advocates for the ideal operating environment for the global alcohol beverage sector, as well as for the advancement of the industry. It deals with governments and international organisations and provides advice on public policy issues. FIVS has created and pursues several initiatives to advance the sector’s aims in the public policy arena. FIVS also provides up-to-date information on developments in the wine, beer and spirits sectors around the world. Please take a look at our Corporate Brochure to find out more about FIVS’s activities.
By joining together, members of the wine, spirits, and beer sectors can help advance views to help realise the type of operating environment that enables the conduct of business in a socially responsible fashion. For FIVS, that means an operating environment that is free from all kinds of trade-distorting factors. Become a Member today!
